Post-Op Recovery Stages Consultation
Understand which stage of recovery you’re in and what type of Post-Op MLD support is best for you.

• Continued swelling reduction
• Supporting tissue healing and circulation
• Maintaining comfort as activity increases
• Beginning gentle refinement of contour
Stage 3: Refinement Phase (Weeks 8–12)

Q & A's
Q: Why is Post-Op MLD recommended after surgery?
A: After surgery, your body can hold onto extra fluid and swelling as it heals. Post-Op MLD helps:
-
Reduce swelling and puffiness
-
Minimize discomfort and tightness
-
Support circulation and lymphatic flow
-
Enhance and protect your surgical results
It is meant to complement your surgeon’s care, not replace it.

Q: When can I start Post-Op MLD after my procedure?
A: Always follow your surgeon’s guidance first. In general, many clients begin Post-Op MLD within the first 1–2 weeks after surgery once they are cleared. During your Initial Post-Op MLD Visit, we’ll review your procedure, healing stage, and any instructions from your surgeon to make sure the timing is appropriate and safe.

Q: How often should I come in for Post-Op MLD?
A: Frequency depends on how far along you are in your recovery and your surgeon’s recommendations. As a general guideline:
-
Weeks 1–4: 2–4 sessions per week (Early Recovery Phase)
-
Weeks 4–8: 1–2 sessions per week (Stabilizing Phase)
-
Weeks 8–12: 1 session per week (Refinement Phase)
-
12+ weeks: 1 session per month for maintenance, as needed
We’ll discuss a personalized plan during your initial visit.

Q: What happens during the Initial Post-Op MLD Visit?
A: Your 90-minute initial visit includes:
-
A detailed review of your intake form and surgical history
-
Discussion of your surgeon’s recommendations and healing stage
-
A visual and hands-on assessment (within your comfort level and scope)
-
A full, customized MLD session
-
A recommended recovery plan based on your goals and healing timeline
This visit ensures your care is safe, personalized, and aligned with your procedure.

Q: Is Post-Op MLD painful?
A: No. Post-Op MLD is a very gentle technique. Most clients describe it as light, soothing pressure and often feel more comfortable and relaxed by the end of the session. If anything feels uncomfortable, we adjust immediately.

Q: Will you use tools or just hands-on techniques?
A: Your session is always customized to what your body needs that day. I primarily use gentle, hands-on lymphatic techniques and may incorporate additional tools or modalities when appropriate and safe. These are included as part of your session—there are no surprise add-on fees or upcharges.

Q: Do I need a package, or can I book single sessions?
A: You can do either. Some clients start with single sessions, while many choose a phase-based package that matches their healing stage (Weeks 1–4, 4–8, or 8–12). Packages are designed around realistic visit frequency and offer savings for those who know they’ll need ongoing support.

Q: What should I wear to my Post-Op MLD session?
A: Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in and does not press tightly on your surgical areas. If your surgeon has provided compression garments, bring and wear them exactly as instructed. We’ll keep you modestly draped and comfortable throughout your session.

Q: Is Post-Op MLD covered by insurance?
A: At this time, sessions at RTB Spa are self-pay and not billed to insurance. However, we do have financing available.

Q: Do I need a referral from my surgeon?
A: A formal referral is not always required, but clearance from your surgeon is strongly recommended, especially in the early weeks after surgery. If your surgeon has specific instructions or restrictions, please bring them to your Initial Post-Op MLD Visit.

Q: Are there any situations where I should NOT receive Post-Op MLD?
A: Yes. You should not receive Post-Op MLD if you have:
-
Active infection or fever
-
Uncontrolled medical conditions (such as certain heart or kidney issues)
-
Blood clots or a history of DVT without clearance
-
Any concerns your surgeon has advised against
If you’re unsure, we will discuss this during your intake and may ask you to obtain medical clearance before proceeding.

Q: How is Post-Op MLD different from regular massage?
A: Post-Op MLD is not a deep tissue or traditional relaxation massage. It uses very light, rhythmic movements that follow the lymphatic pathways to encourage fluid movement and support healing. It is specifically tailored for post-surgical and post-procedure clients.

Q: Can I combine Post-Op MLD with body sculpting or other services?
A: In many cases, yes—but timing matters. We prioritize your healing first. As you move further along in your recovery and once you are cleared, we can discuss how to safely integrate body sculpting or other services into your plan.

Q: What is your cancellation policy for Post-Op MLD appointments and packages?
A: Because post-op time slots are longer and in high demand, we ask that you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance.
-
Cancellations with 48+ hours’ notice: your deposit can be transferred to a future appointment.
-
Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice or no-shows: the deposit is non-refundable and a cancellation fee of $49 may apply.
For package clients, late cancellations or no-shows may result in one session being deducted from your package. This helps keep the schedule fair and available for all post-op clients who need care.

Q: What if I arrive late to my Post-Op MLD session?
A: Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can start on time and give you the full benefit of your session. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your appointment may be considered a no-show, and:
-
We may still be able to see you, but your session will be shortened to fit within the remaining time.
-
The full session fee still applies, or one session will be deducted from your package.
This policy allows us to stay on schedule and respect the time of all clients, especially those in active recovery.
